Why people are running to farm fresh chickens
The other day a customer said something to me that I haven't stopped thinking about.
"I just want food I don't have to question. I already question so much every day, especially when it comes to my family."
Whew.
I felt that.
Maybe you do too.
It seems like everywhere you turn there are labels, claims, ingredients, and opinions telling you what's best. Sometimes it feels like the harder you try to make a good choice, the more confusing it becomes.
I know none of us get it right all the time, and that's okay. But I think most of us are simply trying to do the best we can for the people we love.
That's a big part of why I started paying attention to where my food comes from.
Not because I wanted perfection.
I just wanted food I could feel good about putting on the table.
What Labels Don't Tell You
A label can tell you a lot of things.
But it can't tell you what it feels like to know the person who raised your food.
It can't tell you the early mornings, the daily care, or the attention given along the way.
It can't tell you whether the farmer knows every animal on the farm.
It can't tell you whether the person raising your food would proudly serve it to their own family.
Those things matter to me.
Why I Raise Chickens the Way I Do
When it comes time to process my chickens, things look very different than large-scale production.
My chickens spend their days outside with sunshine, fresh air, grass, bugs, and room to be chickens.
When processing day comes, each chicken is handled individually.
Nothing is rushed.
Nothing is automated.
It's me, one chicken at a time.
I take my time.
Before I begin, I thank God for His provision and for the opportunity to help feed my family and the families I serve.
And yes, I thank the chicken too.
That may sound simple, but it matters to me.
Because food isn't just food.
It's Sunday dinner after church.
It's soup when someone isn't feeling well.
It's leftovers that make a busy week a little easier.
It's gathering around the table with the people we love.
Taking It Back to Simple
I think that's why so many people are looking for farm fresh food.
Not because they're chasing perfection.
Not because they're trying to do everything right.
But because they're tired of feeling disconnected from their food.
They want to know where it came from.
They want to trust the person raising it.
They want food that feels a little more like home.
And honestly, I think that's something worth holding onto.
Because sometimes it feels really good to know the person who raised your dinner.
